What this is

"Claude Fable 5.2" is a label circulating off-site; as of 2026-10-08 the official model overview has no matching row. Anthropic does ship minor versions — the Legacy list on the same page includes claude-fable-5 and claude-opus-4-5 through claude-opus-4-8 — so "5.2" is not an impossible name. But as checked on 2026-10-08 the comparison table's four columns are claude-fable-5-1, claude-opus-5-5, claude-sonnet-5-5 and claude-haiku-5-5, with a single Fable row, claude-fable-5-1 (releasedOn 2026-09-01), and no 5.2 row, id, date or price.

What happened

Checked 2026-10-08: the comparison table in the official overview now has four columns — Claude Fable 5.1, Claude Opus 5.5, Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Claude Haiku 5.5. The three added since the previous check on 2026-09-18 all belong to the 5.5 family: Opus 5.5 (releasedOn 2026-09-22), Sonnet 5.5 (2026-09-28) and Haiku 5.5 (2026-10-07). Fable is still claude-fable-5-1 (releasedOn 2026-09-01, retirementNotBefore 2027-09-01); claude-opus-5 has moved to the Legacy list on the same page.

Confirmed vs caution

Officially confirmed

Official model overview (checked 2026-10-08): the Fable generation is claude-fable-5-1, releasedOn 2026-09-01, retirementNotBefore 2027-09-01, lifecycle active; the table's other three columns are Opus 5.5 (releasedOn 2026-09-22), Sonnet 5.5 (2026-09-28) and Haiku 5.5 (2026-10-07), all four lifecycle active. The previous Opus, Opus 5 (claude-opus-5), now sits in the Legacy list on the same page.

⚠️ Caution

Any evidence that "5.2 already exists somewhere" sits outside official documentation — the model table, release notes, pricing page and deprecations page captured 2026-10-08 contain no Fable 5.2 or claude-fable-5-2. This page draws no conclusion from screenshots and states no date, capability or price for 5.2.

Same vs differs

Same

claude-fable-5-1 and claude-opus-5-5 (released 2026-09-22) both sit in the official comparison table with API id, releasedOn and retirementNotBefore (no earlier than 2027-09-01 and 2027-09-22 respectively).

Differs

claude-fable-5-2 has none of the three: no row, no API id, no lifecycle fields.

What to do

For a Fable tier, set claude-fable-5-1. If you are waiting for 5.2, make "a new row appears in the official model table" your only trigger. Never paste an id from a screenshot into code — it fails outright.

On QCode

claude-fable-5-1 is on sale on QCode with real 30-day traffic. claude-fable-5-2 is unreleased, so there is no id to add; availability follows /models.

FAQ

Has Claude Fable 5.2 shipped?

Per the comparison table on the official model overview, no, as of 2026-10-08. That table carries one Fable row — claude-fable-5-1, releasedOn 2026-09-01 — and the newer additions are Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5, while older ids sit in the Legacy list on the same page.

Which id do I set?

claude-fable-5-1. It appears both in Anthropic's table and in QCode's /models, so it is callable.

Where does "5.2" come from?

Off-site discussion; there is no matching row in Anthropic's documentation. We do not reproduce specific screenshots or conclude from them.

Will 5.1 be replaced by 5.2?

The table gives claude-fable-5-1 a retirementNotBefore field and says nothing about 5.2. That field promises "not before", not a successor.

Do Fable and Opus follow the same numbering?

Both lines do ship minor numbers: the official page lists claude-fable-5 next to claude-fable-5-1 (releasedOn 2026-09-01), and the Opus 4 generation runs claude-opus-4-5 through claude-opus-4-8 in Legacy. So "5.2 is impossible" has no official basis; what can be confirmed is that no 5.2 row exists as of 2026-10-08.

When does this page go stale?

The moment a new Fable row appears in the official model table. The capture date — 2026-10-08 — is stated in Sources.

Sources

Use the row that exists today

claude-fable-5-1 is callable on QCode, same key as opus and sonnet.

Related

This page separates three tiers: what the official model table confirms, the rumour and circulating "5.2" claims, and what stays unconfirmed — no official id, date or price. Unreleased models get no capability claims and no leaked benchmarks. Official pages were checked on 2026-10-08; the official pages prevail, and model availability is whatever /models shows.
